Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) issued his support for the USDA’s decision to ban farmland purchases by Chinese nationals as part of the Trump administration’s National Farm Security Action Plan. The initiative seeks to prevent foreign adversaries from acquiring American farmland and to reclaim previously purchased land deemed a national security risk. This aligns with efforts long championed by Assembly Republicans in New York state.
“This is the right move by the USDA to protect our nation’s farmland from foreign adversaries, and frankly overdue,” said DiPietro. “Chinese nationals pose a clear threat to our national security. Allowing foreign entities to buy up our farmland undermines our sovereignty and jeopardizes our national security. American agriculture feeds our families and sustains our communities. We cannot risk our food supply and leave the door open to espionage and other vulnerabilities.”
“Albany Democrats have played politics with our safety for too long, blocking common-sense measures like Assemblyman Matthew Slater’s bill (A.1452) that would have safeguarded New York’s strategic lands much sooner. Democrats and the governor’s refusal to act left our state and nation exposed. New York’s failure to even consider A.1452 was a missed opportunity to be leaders on this critical issue,” DiPietro concluded.
Assemblyman David DiPietro represents the 147th Assembly District, which includes parts of Erie and Wyoming counties.
