Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora), the ranking member of the Assembly
Correction Committee, issued the following statement in response to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s
reckless and insulting remarks:
“Gov. Hochul’s statement proves just how out of touch Albany’s progressive elites really
are. ‘Do your jobs’? Our correctional officers have been doing their jobs. They have been
working brutal 16-hour shifts, they have been forced to work on their days off, they have been sacrificing time with their families, all while Albany ties their hands behind their backs. Our COs are exhausted, overworked and disrespected by the very people who are supposed to have their backs."
“Where have the Democrats been? Have you seen a single one stand with our officers?
No, they stand with criminals. They pushed the HALT Act, which has turned prisons into
powder kegs. Even inmates are writing letters of support for COs because they see first-hand the disaster Albany created."
“I am calling for the immediate repeal of the HALT Act before another tragedy unfolds.
Gov. Hochul, do your job, fix this crisis.”
Assemblyman David DiPietro represents the 147th Assembly District, which includes parts of Erie and Wyoming counties.
