Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) is calling out Gov. Kathy Hochul for
failing to do her job as New York’s correctional officers continue to be ignored. After a week of protests at 37 state correctional facilities, the governor is refusing to acknowledge the crisis she created.
“Our correctional officers are overworked, understaffed and under siege, yet Kathy
Hochul refuses to lift a finger. She’ll pitch closing five more prisons and demand these COs go back to work before offering so much as a conversation with their union."
“The HALT Act has turned our prisons into war zones, stripping officers of the tools they
need to maintain order. Assaults on staff have skyrocketed, and instead of taking action, Hochul continues her reckless agenda of prison closures and dangerous policies."
“I am demanding the immediate repeal of HALT before more officers get hurt or worse.
The governor has a choice. She can stand with the brave men and women protecting our
communities or continue appeasing radicals at the expense of public safety,” DiPietro said.
Assemblyman David DiPietro represents the 147th Assembly District, which includes parts of Erie and Wyoming counties.
