As violence and chaos escalate in New York’s correctional facilities, Assemblyman
David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) is urging every town, city and village in the state to pass
resolutions in support of correctional officers and demand the repeal of the HALT Act.
“Our correctional officers have been abandoned by Albany’s progressive agenda where
criminals take priority,” said DiPietro. “These men and women put their lives on the line every day, yet they are forced into brutal shifts and are left defenseless by failed leadership. Gov. Hochul has refused to listen thus far, taking time only to tell overworked prison staff to, ‘do your job, go back to work’.”
DiPietro shared a message at a Marilla town hall Tuesday night where he called on local
governments to hold emergency meetings and take immediate action to back correctional officers to send a message to the governor.
“I’m calling on every town, city and village in New York to hold an emergency meeting
and pass a resolution in support of our correctional officers. This message needs to reach
everyone. Our officers, our communities and those in power who continue to ignore this crisis. Stand up. Speak out. Let’s fight for the safety of our state before it’s too late,” said DiPietro at last night's town hall.
Assemblyman David DiPietro represents the 147th Assembly District, which includes parts of Erie and Wyoming counties.
